On February 20 and 21,The first Vascular Access Conference was held at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital
The conferences were organized by the Clinical Care Division of Palex Medical, together with the ICU service of the hospital.
Different subjects were treated, from the creation of ETI teams (Intravenous Therapy Team), as well as the new technologies and products within the range of vascular access and update of clinical guides and protocols to avoid complications
The conference had different speakers, Tomasa Santos, a reference nurse from the HCUVA oncology day hospital, Maria Pellicer, head nurse at the HCUVA ICU and nurses who make up the HGUMM vascular access team; and with the presence of Gloria Ortiz, national reference in Vascular Access, founder of GRUMAV (one of the national reference organizations in vascular access) and co-director of the Master of Vascular Access at UAM and specialist in PICC-PORT insertion at the Fundación Jiménez Díaz.
During the conferences, several practical workshops were developed by Gloria Ortiz and the specialist colleagues of the Clinical Care Division of Palex, where the nurses learned to recognize the venous access of a patient with the help of ultrasound scan and the different techniques of insertion according to the type of catheter and the venous access of the patient.
The conferences were considered by the participants themselves (more than 100 nurses of the main hospitals of the region of Murcia and Cartagena), as an innovative, necessary and successful action, giving us the congratulations and wishing that a second edition exists soon.
