> Berlin Heart: More than 70 implants in 7 years
Cardiac health and assistance also for the children
Around seven years in the Spanish market, and more than 70 implants have successfully been made. These are the figures that underscore the acceptance of the Berlin Heart within the Spanish market.
But beyond the data, it is even more relevant the satisfaction and help provided to the patients, who can have a prolongued circulatory assistance thanks to this device - which can substitute temporarily a damaged heart - whilst waiting for a transplant.
This device is available both for children and for adults, but the paedriatic one is a unique product in the Spanish market. The first successfull implantation took place in the Hospital La Paz (Madrid), in October 2006. The patient was transplanted in June 2007. The paedriatic Berlin Heart made possible for the patient to wait for those eight months till he was transplanted. Several other implants have been made since then, most of them to children.
Major hospitals have implanted this device, such as La Paz, the Hospital Gregorio Marañón (Madrid), the Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron (Barcelona), thel Hospital Universitario Reina Sofía (Córdoba), the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario A Coruña and the Hospital Puerta de Hierro (Madrid).
The satisfaction and joy brought to many patients is shown through their own experiences. To see some of them, follow the links below:
