HISTORY

More than half a century at the service of patients and health professionals


The beginnings of the Palex Group date back to 1950, when Hans Knuth, the group’s founder, started a business relationship with the German company B. Braun.


During these 50 years, we have strived daily to bring to patients and health professionals the most innovative products with the most advanced concept of Total Service.


The list below gives some of the major milestones in the Palex Group’s history:


1955 The company starts manufacturing catgut in Rubí, Barcelona. The Knuth family and the German company B. Braun each have a 50% share in the company called Material Clínico SA. The company’s management is entrusted to the Knuth family.
1963 The company starts to distribute B. Braun’s products in Spain
1968 The company starts to distribute products made by other leading manufacturers
1969 The Heart Surgery Division supplies the first "Shiley" pivoting disc heart valve
1973
10 regional offices are opened (nationwide coverage)
24/365 "Total Service" is started in Spain
1983 First automated high-rise warehouse with transelevators in the health industry
1985 Presentation of the first PATS computer system for patient monitoring
1988 Introduction of the first "Jarvik"artificial heart
1990 Growth in autologous transfusion in routine heart surgery
1991 Separation of B. Braun and Palex, which now focuses on the distribution of hospital products.
1995
The international business starts with the creation of Lusopalex in Portugal
First company in the industry to include the EAN-128 code on all its sale units
1997 Creation of Servistal Médica SL, with the goal of guaranteeing optimal service to the Palex Group’s customers.
1999
Creation of the Centralized Customer Service (CAC) System
Implementation of the SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) management software
Creation of a software system for managing public purchasing
Creation of the Key Accounts structure
2000 The company starts marketing intelligent dispensing cabinets
2002 Certification to the ISO 9001 standard
2004 Creation of the brands Nursia and Klinice for Hospital Disposables
2005
Installation of the first da Vinci surgery robot in Spain
FAD-Todo Hospital Prize for Innovation and for improvement of the quality of a product or service intended for Hospitals
2006
Introduction of the RP7 Robot for monitoring patients by remote presence
Marketing of the BMAC System for obtaining concentrated stem cells
2007
Inclusion of a new mechanical ventricular assistance concept: Berlin Heart
Development of Dyane, a warehouse management software platform, with the possibility of recording consumption and validating dispensing by individual patients.
2008
New Headquarters opened in Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona)
Inclusion of the 3D Viking System in Laparoscopy
Marketing begins of the Sensei robotic Catheter guiding system
Marketing begins of the LIAC portable electron accelerator
2009
Marketing begins of the robotic system for preparing intravenous admixtures RIVA
The Palex Group now has more than 300 employees
2010
Creation of the Operating Room line
Introduction of the Oncotype DX Breast Cancer Assay
Installation of the first da Vinci surgery robot in Portugal
The consolidated sales of the Palex Group exceed 100 million Euros
2011 The Palex Group obtains a syndicated loan of 70 million euros from CaixaBank
Introduction of the Perceval Sutureless Aortic Valve
The Palex Group achieves ISO certification renewal of its companies
